Mental Health Clubhouse and Affordable Housing in Nakusp

Nakusp house after renovations
One of the Nakusp houses after renovations.

In 2002 the Real Estate Foundation approved a $3,000 grant to Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services to determine the feasibility of renovating a heritage house for use as a clubhouse and affordable housing for mental health consumers. When the study found that renovating would be less expensive than new construction, and that there were appropriate houses available in Nakusp, the organization applied for a capital grant from the Foundation in 2003. As one of several partners, the Real Estate Foundation made a $50,000 grant to assist with the creation of the housing units.

The on-line report provides detailed information about why and how Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services undertook this project. Budgets, newspaper articles, and photographs are appended to the report.
