BC Water Sustainability Endowment Fund Grant

2013 will be the third year the Real Estate Foundation of BC offers the BC Water Sustainability Endowment Fund Grant. The 2011 grantee was Langley Environmental Partners Society for the B-WET project--be sure to watch the B-WET video! The 2012 grantee was Stream of Dreams Murals Society for "Mapping Where We Live." we will produce something similar for this year's grantee.

Proceeds from the inaugural 2010 Land Awards Gala launched the Real Estate Foundation's BC Water Sustainability Endowment Fund, and 2011 was the first year that income from the fund was available. In 2010, over $39,000 was raised; subsequent years' gala proceeds will continue to be added to the fund. We invite ongoing donations to this endowment as the fund will support non-profit activities in water sustainability in the foreseeable future.

  • In 2013, one grant of $3,000 will be available.
  • The grant application deadline is June 28, 2013.
  • The grant will be awarded in late September.

Funding focus

The Real Estate Foundation’s mission is to transform land use attitudes and practices through innovation, stewardship, and learning. Such practices must incorporate respect for natural water systems—and implement best practices to support optimal watershed functioning—in order to be truly sustainable.

Because of the Foundation’s “land use” mandate, the focus is on fresh water bodies and watercourses, and the foreshore: where land meets ocean. Projects focused solely on marine environments are not eligible for support.

In 2013 the single grant awarded will make a meaningful contribution to support a project or program which focuses on water sustainability from a watershed perspective. This includes public education and/or on-the-ground activities which promote:
  • Community-based watershed stewardship
  • Sustainable use of fresh water

All qualified donees under the Income Tax Act are eligible to apply.
