How to Apply

We are looking for proposals that can become successful grant applications. Successful applications occur when there is strong compatibility between the applicant's and the Foundation's mission and goals. We do not want to miss a good opportunity to work with a potential partner. Please send us a thoughtful letter of inquiry describing your initiative.

We will thoroughly consider the proposal of each agency invited to make an application. Our staff will consult with applicants to ensure that we understand their initiative and the outcomes it may provide for specific audiences in their community or region.

Our Process

The Real Estate Foundation has a two-stage grant application process:

  1. Letter of Inquiry
  2. Grant Application

Letter of Inquiry

NEW - As of mid-April 2008, the Foundation will respond to letters of inquiry (LOI) quarterly. However, we will continue to receive LOIs on an ongoing basis. We encourage you to inquire early, especially if your project is time-sensitive. Staff will respond to letters of inquiry within two weeks after an LOI deadline. Applicant organizations that are invited to submit a formal grant application will have four weeks to do so.

2008 LOI Deadlines:

  • June 9
  • September 8
  • December 19 (for first grants meeting of 2009)

Please send only one copy of your letter. Do not send it by various means (e-mail, fax and mail) to ensure that we receive it. Do not send your e-mail inquiry to more than one staff person. Once is enough.

We suggest that you review the following information before submitting a letter of inquiry:

Grant Application

Foundation staff invite formal applications based on letters of inquiry. The Board of Governors make grant decisions at quarterly meetings.

Organizations which are invited to apply for a grant will be notified of the date by which the application must be received by the Foundation.

Submit an application to the Foundation only after you have been invited to do so by a staff member. Unsolicited applications will not be considered.
