The year 2000 set a record for the Foundation, with over $3 million in grants approved for 100 projects throughout British Columbia.
Of the Foundations four grant program themes, it was Housing & Finance that took the largest share, with $2.3 million or 73% of the total grant funds being allocated to housing research, education, and capital projects.
Over the years the Real Estate Foundation has supported the development of housing for special needs groups and shelters for homeless/at-risk youth and adults. The Foundation has supported the work of established organizations such as the Victoria Cool Aid Society, Habitat for Humanity, the John Howard Society, and the Salvation Army, as well as local housing societies. We applaud their committed efforts to increase the housing options available to people in need.
As this is my final report as outgoing Chair and Governor of the Real Estate Foundation, I would like to express my thanks to the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia for appointing me as their representative on the Foundations Board of Governors for the past four years.
I would also like to thank my fellow Governors and the staff for their continued assistance and for their commitment to the success of the Real Estate Foundation as it works to improve land use and real estate practices in B.C.
