Governors' Page

by Gary Brady

Four years ago I had the privilege of being appointed by the British Columbia Real Estate Association to represent the real estate industry as a Governor of the Real Estate Foundation. Over the years I have witnessed the Foundation become more proactive in reaching out to communities throughout British Columbia in addressing land related issues. These land related issues are far reaching and include environmental issues, land planning and development issues as well as supporting research for finding new and better ways to manage the land.

During that time the Foundation has been consistent in its support of the real estate profession and educational institutions in striving for “industry excellence”. It remains abundantly clear that the real estate industry has a primary obligation to offer its services in meeting the needs of the public in all areas of land related issues. The Foundation will keep its commitment in supporting those initiatives that the real estate industry takes to ensure the best interests of the public are well served.

Last but not least, the Foundation has and will continue to support projects that result in the development of low cost rental housing and those that address the shelter needs of the homeless. The Kamloops Safe House for Youth, which will provide temporary shelter for street kids, is a prime example. With the initiative of the Kamloops & District Real Estate Association, the support of the community and a $200,000 grant from the Foundation this facility will open its doors this year.

The next millennium is upon us. How we as a society address land related issues remains a priority. The Foundation looks forward in its efforts to be a key participant in making a positive difference in the way we use the land and how we address the complexities of land related issues.
